Calculate a paperback cover from the final interior page count.
Get the full-wrap width, height, spine width, panel positions, and barcode safe area for a supported KDP paperback configuration.
What does this tool check?
A paperback cover is not a generic image size. Its full width changes with trim width, paper type, and the final even page count of the uploaded interior PDF.
Your calculated setup
- Full cover size
- 12.52024 × 9.25 in
- Spine width
- 0.27024 in
- Final even pages
- 120
- Spine text
- Allowed by page-count rule
- Front starts at
- 6.39524 in from left edge
- Barcode safe area
- 2 × 1.2 in
Dimensions use the selected final interior page count and BoundHive KDP rules version. Recalculate after the exported interior PDF has its final page count.

Use these settings in a new bookInputs, calculation, and limits
- What you enter
- Trim size, ink and paper type, and the final page count of the interior PDF. An odd page count is rounded up to the next even number because KDP prints an even number of pages.
- How the number is calculated
- Cover width = bleed + back cover width + spine width + front cover width + bleed. Cover height = bleed + trim height + bleed. The cover bleed is always 0.125 in on each edge and does not depend on whether the interior uses bleed. The spine width is the page count multiplied by the paper factor Amazon publishes for that paper type.
- What the result cannot tell you
- The result is a file size, not a design review. It does not check image resolution, text inside the safe area, barcode placement in your artwork, or hardcover wraps, which use a different template.
A 6 x 9 in paperback, black ink on white paper, 200 interior pages, no interior bleed (KDP rules version 2026-09-07):
- Spine width: 200 x 0.002252 in = 0.4504 in.
- Full-wrap cover: 12.7004 in wide x 9.25 in high, including 0.125 in bleed on every outer edge.
- Front cover panel starts 6.5754 in from the left edge of the file.
How wide does the full-wrap cover need to be, and how thick is the spine?
The cover width is back cover plus spine plus front cover plus bleed on both sides; the spine width is the final even page count multiplied by the paper-specific factor Amazon publishes, so the cover cannot be sized before the interior page count is final.

The calculator uses the same versioned specification catalog as Book Studio. It validates the complete option combination before returning a dimension and records the rules date with the result.
