Free KDP trim checker

Check whether a paperback setup is a supported KDP combination.

Choose trim size, ink and paper, and page count to validate the combination against BoundHive’s dated KDP rules catalog.

What does this tool check?

A trim size can be valid for one ink, paper, binding, or page range and invalid for another. Check the complete combination, not the trim label alone.

Use the final interior PDF page count for a production cover. An estimate is useful only for planning.

Inputs, calculation, and limits

What you enter
Trim size, ink and paper type, and the planned page count.
How the number is calculated
Every supported trim size has its own minimum and maximum page count per ink and paper type. The checker looks the combination up in a dated copy of Amazon’s trim size table and reports whether the page count falls inside that range.
What the result cannot tell you
A supported combination is not a finished interior: margins, bleed, fonts, and image resolution are checked separately. Amazon can add or retire options; the rules date shown with each result says which version was checked.
Worked example, computed by the same code as the calculator

A 6 x 9 in paperback, black ink on white paper, 200 interior pages, no interior bleed (KDP rules version 2026-09-07):

  • 6 x 9 in with black ink on white paper supports 24 to 828 pages, so 200 pages is a supported combination.
  • The same trim on cream paper or standard color paper has a different page range; the checker reports each one separately.
Official sources for these rulesBoundHive checks these pages and records the date as the rules version shown with every result. Amazon can change its requirements; the rules version tells you which copy was checked.
Format and interior

Which trim size, page count, margins, and bleed setting work together for my paperback?

Check the complete combination first: a trim size, ink and paper type, and page count must be a supported KDP set, and the page count then fixes the minimum inside margin and whether the interior needs a bleed page size.

How BoundHive keeps the answer reproducible

The calculator uses the same versioned specification catalog as Book Studio. It validates the complete option combination before returning a dimension and records the rules date with the result.

Amazon can change requirements. Recheck the final files against the current KDP previewer and official documentation immediately before submission.
