Check the mechanical limits of a draft KDP metadata package.
Review title and subtitle length, description length, and keyword-box count before moving the fields into a book project.
What does this tool check?
A mechanical metadata check catches length and count errors. It cannot prove relevance, rights, accuracy, discoverability, or compliance with every Amazon content rule.
Inputs, calculation, and limits
- What you enter
- The draft title, subtitle, description, and up to seven keyword phrases.
- How the number is calculated
- The checker counts characters and keyword boxes against the limits Amazon publishes for the listing form: 200 characters for title plus subtitle, 4,000 characters for the description, and seven keyword boxes with no repeated phrases.
- What the result cannot tell you
- Counting cannot judge whether a keyword matches how readers search, whether a claim is allowed, or whether the description is accurate. Those remain author decisions and Amazon reviews the listing separately.
A 6 x 9 in paperback, black ink on white paper, 200 interior pages, no interior bleed (KDP rules version 2026-09-07):
- A 62-character title with a 70-character subtitle uses 134 of the 200 characters allowed for the combined field.
- Seven distinct keyword phrases pass the count check; repeating one of them in two boxes is flagged.
What should the title, subtitle, description, and keywords look like before I upload?
Check the mechanical limits first, then make sure title, subtitle, categories, and description describe the same book for the same reader; a keyword is useful when it matches how that reader searches, not because it is popular.

The calculator uses the same versioned specification catalog as Book Studio. It validates the complete option combination before returning a dimension and records the rules date with the result.
